How To Prep Your Home for Holiday Guests

Hi friends,

The holidays are upon us again! If you’re hosting out-of-town guests, or even just a few neighbors for an afternoon get-together, here are some of our favorite simple ways to make your home feel warm and inviting to all. Happy hosting!

1. Make some room.
Clear out some space on your coat rack for guests to drop their winter layers upon arrival, and designate an area of your mudroom or entryway for shoes. Your guests will feel comfortable and free to make themselves at home from the get-go.

2. Bring on the blankets.
When it comes to the thermostat, you probably already know that it’s nearly impossible to please everybody. When the cold weather hits, an easy way to up the cozy factor in your space is to scatter a few blankets around – you can drape them over the armrests of chairs, over the backs of couches, or just keep them folded and within easy reach. Your guests will feel welcome and taken care of.

3. Add extra seats.
If your living room or gathering space is short a few seats, bring in some dining chairs or additional seating from other rooms in your home. It doesn’t need to be fancy, and having somewhere for everyone to sit comfortably will ensure that all your guests feel included and inclined to stay awhile.

4. Don’t forget drinks.
Let your guests know when they arrive where they can find water, seltzer, or a coffee. Better yet, a small refreshment area with a coffee machine, mugs, a pitcher of water, and some glasses will encourage your guests to serve themselves whenever they like.

We hope these tips help you host a wonderful gathering! At the end of the day, any little touches that you can add to help your guests feel comfortable and welcome will go a long way in keeping spirits bright this holiday season.

Until next time,
