Meet the Team: Staci McCann Insurance Division Manager & Senior Portfolio Manager

What is your role at BRIGS, and what does your day-to-day look like? I am the Insurance Division Manager as well as a Senior Portfolio Manager.  My day to day in the Insurance Division consists of oversight of open insurance claims, processing renewals of insurance policies, meeting with various insurance brokers and adjusters,  advising Boards on their insurance needs, assisting unit owners with questions about the Master Insurance policy for their Association among other tasks. As a Senior Portfolio Manager, I oversee the business management of my assigned properties, schedule ongoing maintenance, approve payment of invoices, assist unit owners with questions or concerns and work in an advisory capacity with the Boards.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job? A home is someone’s most important place, it is their safety and their comfort and escape from the world.  When someone experiences a loss to their home whether it be a flood or a fire, their whole world has just collapsed in a moment and it is a very stressful time for them.  Being able to help them navigate through the insurance claim process is rewarding as it can be very overwhelming and confusing for anyone who has never had a loss before.  Condominium insurance is very specialized with a lot of nuances to it and I am happy to be a resource to help all of our Unit Owners understand what they need for coverage before a loss occurs in their home.

What’s something you find challenging about your work? There are many different facets to Property Management, and I’ve found over the years that unless someone works directly in this industry a lot of people don’t always understand what we do or what our role or responsibilities are and that can be challenging at times.

What are some hobbies you enjoy?  I love spending time with my kids, I have 2 adult children (son and daughter) as well as a 12 year old daughter.  We love to hang out together as a family whether it be going out to dinner or family game night at home, there are always a lot of laughs.   One of our favorite things to do together is to go Roller Skating.

I also enjoying crafting and making home decor and gifts for friends and family.

Who inspires you? My kids have always inspired me to be a better person every single day, I strive to be a role model for them to always be kind, giving, to never give up, to not be too proud to admit your mistakes and to always be willing to grow.  The people who can get out of bed every morning with a smile on their face and who choose to be gentle and kind to others even when life hasn’t been gentle and  kind to them inspire me as well.

Do you have a book, movie, or TV show you are enjoying at the moment? I really don’t watch a lot of TV, I can go weeks without turning it on.  I do read a lot though and have read over 100 books in the last year.  I am just about to start reading A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara.

Tell us about your ideal weekend plan. My ideal weekend plan would be having no plans!  Sleeping in, going out for breakfast with my kids and/or friends and just enjoying the day with no schedule to be anywhere at any given time.

What’s a motto or mantra that you live by? There is always something to be thankful for.  Life can be challenging at times and it can be hard to find the joy in certain situations, but at the end of each day there is still so much to be thankful for.  I do try to focus on the positives as much as possible.

Coffee or tea? Tea! This may come as a shock to some but I am willing to admit that I have never ordered anything at Starbucks and the only thing I’ve ever ordered at Dunkins is hot chocolate and donuts!

Fall is here—what are your favorite parts of the season?  I grew up in California so I never experienced true fall until I moved to New England 15 years ago.  I love watching the trees change colors, apple crisp, and fresh out of the oven apple cider donuts! Fall also brings cheer season for my youngest daughter and I love watching her compete and doing what she loves.

Favorite Thanksgiving dish?  I’ve always had a sweet tooth so my favorite dish is actually dessert!  I love dutch apple pie!
