Ready. Set. Get organized!

Ahhh. The arrival of a new year is like having your slate wiped clean — a chance to start totally fresh. (And who doesn’t want that?) It’s also the perfect time to get organized and start the new year on solid footing. According to this article from Psychology Today, getting organized can actually impact your mental health and productivity for the better. The less we’re distracted by clutter, the more time and energy we can spend on things that bring us joy, help us get ahead at work—you get the picture. So, what better way to set yourself up for success in 2021 than by getting organized around your home and office? The lifestyle gurus at Good Housekeeping put together this list of 100 helpful organizing hacks. Here are a few that we’re already embracing:

Practicing the “one in, one out” rule. Whether it’s clothing, office supplies, kitchen gadgets, or kids’ toys, for every new item you acquire, vow to get rid of an old one. It’ll help prevent the buildup of clutter around your space.

Tidying up the junk drawer. We all have one—the desk or kitchen drawer that’s brimming with batteries, spare house keys, gum, rubber bands, takeout menus, and (much) more. And that’s okay. But consider organizing the chaos with labeled dividers or baskets so you can easily find what you’re looking for.

On-the-door racks and command strips. Storage doesn’t have to be limited to cabinets and drawers. Make use of vertical space by hanging racks over doors to your laundry room, pantry, and closets. Then, fill their shelves and baskets with cleaning supplies, linens, and other essentials you frequently find yourself reaching for.

Another way to ensure less stress this year: staying organized when you’re on the go.

In the car. Toss a handy trunk organizer in your car to keep things like grocery bags, ice scrapers, and other things from taking over and making a mess. Bonus: Less-distracted driving when you’re not worried about what’s rolling around back there.

By the door. We’re also big fans of boot trays, which keep shoes and boots within easy reach—and floors free from things like slush, salt, and water—when everyone’s coming and going.

Here’s to a happy, healthy, and organized 2021.
