Meet Rick Ploss, Associate Vice President

What is your role at BRIGS, and what does your day-to-day look like?

As an associate vice president, I work with a team of terrific property managers and manage a portfolio of properties. My day will typically see me visiting my properties, which I really enjoy, addressing various maintenance matters, and helping owners resolve all variety of homeowner issues that come with owning a condo. I enjoy helping my team in answering questions and working through challenges. Property managers must be chameleons—we do so many different things every day. It makes the job challenging but never boring, and I thrive on not being bored.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job? For me, working with new managers and helping them acclimate to the company in my own way. I provide support and know that I am contributing to my fellow property managers' success and, by extension, their clients’.

What’s something you find challenging about your work? I think the greatest challenge I face is when there is an issue at a property that stumps me. I like to fix problems, so I will dwell on it until it gets resolved. Plus, I find that not being together in the office environment, as we were prior to COVID-19, hinders being able to interface with co-workers. I’m a people person so being mostly remote removes the day to day interaction I enjoy.

What are some hobbies you enjoy? I am an avid reader of all types of genres. A good book is my way of relaxing, along with playing cribbage with family/friends. Deep sea fishing has long been a passion. But cooking (not baking) is what I really enjoy. I never follow a recipe, so its’s different every time.

Tell us about your ideal weekend plan. An ideal weekend would find me and my wife visiting someplace new, like a winery or antique store where old maps are sold. My wife loves maps so happy wife, happy life I say!

What is your favorite movie? Favorite movie of all time has to be Slap Shot (the original). But Blazing Saddles comes in a close 2nd. It’s a slapstick, but it makes me laugh every time.

What’s your favorite holiday tradition? My family does a Yankee Swap and it’s a lot of fun to see what crafty gifts we can come up with for each other.

Skiing or snowboarding? (Or apres-ski?) I do not ski or snowboard. Older bones don’t heal well. Give me a snow ball fight any day.

Do you have any holiday travel planned? We traveled a number of times this past year. This year, we will enjoy chilling out on the couch and binge-watching some shows, I think.
